PETITION FOR BUILDING A NEW WORLD PEACE SHRINE & SANCTUARY IN LETHBRIDGE

 

On September 17, 2024, the first two World Peace Shrines, built for our community by Michael Petrakis, were suddenly "removed" without ANY public notice, by the City of Lethbridge, Alberta.  The loss of these Sacred Sites has caused immense grief, frustration, and a sense of betrayal for hundreds, if not thousands of people who regularly visited or pilgrimaged to the Shrine.

 

There is a Silver Lining:  The City of Lethbridge has invited a proposal to rebuild a new WORLD PEACE SHRINE & SANCTUARY.
We can create a protected space, open and accessible to the public, as a beautiful representation of our shared experience, using natural elements and designs, with a central altar, like a destination on our journey through life.
This Sacred Gathering space functions as a Sharing Circle, and place of Healing, Community Building, and Education for all visitors who wish to honor and celebrate our Universal Commonalities of LOVE, UNITY & TRUTH.
This is a Profound Opportunity for Our CommUnity.  

 

WE INVITE AND ENCOURAGE YOU TO: 

  • VISIT our website for more information and Sign the Petition in solidarity for a new WORLD PEACE SHRINE & SANCTUARY in Lethbridge. You can choose to be notified when further plans are solidified and construction commences at a new location.

  • AFFIRM if you would like to be an official Friend of the Shrine, which includes having a voice at meetings involving planning, construction and operation, as well as volunteer opportunities and notification of events. 

  • SHARE your feedback and past experiences from the Shrine, giving voice to the beauty that once was and could be, for all to feel and see.

    I visited the shrine in the river bottom as part of my hikes that I take often down there. I lost a son a year ago and the shrine provided a place for me to feel peace in my heart. Grief over losing a child is a hard cross to bear. I felt immediate calm in my heart and soul while I walked through the shrine. The location was beautiful but I really hope it can be rebuilt somewhere. I really do miss it.

    The peace shrine felt like a dedicated space that people could go where there is a specific intention of quiet reflection and communion with self, Spirit, and nature in a deep and meaningful way. It was the only space in Lethbridge that held that kind of specific container, that was also so accessible within the city limits. Please allow us to make another one. Sooo many of us Lethbridge citizens would value it and benefit so greatly from it.

    While herding 200 goats through different sections of Indian Battleground Park I was privileged to visit the World Peace Shrine before it was dismantled. I was enthralled by the passion and vision, asking myself who could have built this? A few days later Michael introduced himself to me and answered my many questions about the spiral, the rocks and the wood. One man’s vision touched my life profoundly. All kinds of people asked me how to find the shrine while I was in the area. This was a major attraction and I’m very sad that it’s no longer there.
