Note:

In regards to the average ideal staff-to-child ratio for Orphanages:

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a minimum of 1 caregiver per 6-8 children in residential care settings. Assuming 500 orphans, this would translate to approximately 62-83 caregivers.
  • The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) suggests a staff-to-child ratio of 1:10 for institutional care, while the  For 500 orphans, this would require around 50 caregivers.
  • Some orphanages might have a higher staff-to-child ratio, especially if they prioritize individualized care and attention. For example, a ratio of 1:5 or 1:4 might be more common in smaller, community-based settings.

Because our Orphan Sanctuary is small and community-based, will include agriculture projects to provide more than enough food for the orphans, while acting like a community food bank, and will provide basic education, our estimated ideal staff-to-child ratio is 1:3.

"What is Forest Bathing?!

Forest bathing, forest therapy, or Shinrin-yoku, was developed in Japan in the 1980s.

There is a large amount of scientific evidence surrounding the health benefits of spending time in nature. Because of this, forest bathing became an integral part of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. The idea is that when humans spend time in a natural setting, especially under the canopy of a forest, they experience rejuvenating benefits to the mind, body and spirit. This is not a novel concept. Traditionally people sought the restorative benefits of the forest as part of their everyday life.

However, with the increase of industry and modern civilization, we moved away from the forest and into the hustle and bustle of the city. We lost touch with nature."
